Hi all,

The day had a very startling start for my parents, because promptly at 5 am I woke up. Their desperate attempts to ignore me where met with Brum on DVD arriving for me. Yah! I have them so well trained. Poor Dad is the only one willing at this point of the morning to even speak to me, so he gingerly got up and bid Mom farewell and off we went to the study to PLAY. After Mom was up and about we all had our breakfast and showered and Dad headed off for town. Mom and I did a few loads of washing and headed outdoors. Even though it was only 10 in the morning it was 28? C. The temperature definitively warranted a swim in the fountain after having filled it, and then one in the swimming pool. Mom however made sure the umbrella was over our spot in the pool as the sun was beating down.

I had a quick jump on the trampoline and swing on the swing and we were off for my 6 monthly ENT visit. One of my grommets is out, fortunately it was blue in colour when it came out, so we could identify it. Mom thought it was relatively huge for my ear canal. Dr Davidge-Pitts was very kind and gentle and also cleaned my ears for me. My hearing test also revealed a normal score. More exciting than this was the recipient of the next appointment after mine was my little friend Kyle. He was amazing, and he is talking and just a joy to be around. I reckon that very soon he’ll be running the halls with me.

In between Mommy’s reunion with Aunty Helen and Kyle, I ran screeching through the hospital halls as though my Mother was after me, which she was, but there was no way I was sitting still for that length of time. On returning home, we had lunch outside and while Mom worked, I played with my cars and Dad arrived to take me to the HaaHoo park. In the evening, my parents had to giggle, when pleas for help while washing my hands elicited no response from them, I screamed for HELP! Mommy found me hanging onto the basin a few mm away from my standing block, but I couldn’t see it so had an absolute freak out. Can you believe they left me like that for about 5 minutes well maybe on 1 or 2.

What a Monday.

This week is graduation week. I graduated from TopTots and from Be Sharp Beetles this week. Both I got reports for. I was feeling nervous, considering all the last few weeks ‘bad’ news but Mommy assured me that I was her shooting star so no fears to be had. I decided not to ‘punish’ the folks and woke up very close to 6am. I couldn’t wait to get to TopTots. We had a very good class and my friends and myself, did all the exercises perfectly. I can tell that teacher Koren was quite proud of me.

We then got a certificate, badge and graduation roll. Our Mommy’s also got a wonderfully extravagant set of books as well. Then we played in the grounds and had cake. I kept asking for “my cake, and pop corn” (note two words, I just want to make sure that I get the full quota). I felt like quite a star. Mommy says everyone should give TopTots a try.

As it was really rainy and the day got really cold we went to the Brightwater Commons for some exercise on Tuesday. I ran up and down the corridors, and very soon I was rubbing my eyes with tiredness. Home we headed for a snooze.

To continue on the excellent trend of the day, I’ll have you know, I put my sandals on with absolutely NO help. Mommy is very excited and couldn’t wait for Dad to get home to share the news with him. This might be simple for you ‘normal’ kids, but don’t rain on my parade. But wait. My cuteness and my parents delight with me didn’t stop there. I blew bubbles in the afternoon after having gone to the shop for stationery supplies. I insisted on blowing them inside which was not good for soft furnishings according to Mom, so I was relegated to the shower, that was great till I slipped and fell resulting in the entirety of the bottle being distributed over me and the floor. Mom picked me up and let me wash off in the basin. Mom left me alone for a few minutes to talk to Dad and the result is evident in the photos.

Then on top of this I started learning to ride my trike with pedals. I’ve got the idea but the pedals are a bit too far away from me still. I did thrill my Mom with waking for a pre-midnight feast and asking for some Num Nums – this entailed a yoghurt followed by a few bites of banana. I then went back to sleep as though nothing had happened.

Wednesday saw us heading off to Be Sharp Beetles for our certificate ceremony. Unfortunately at approximately 10:30 I melted down big time. I am usually a happy child and I am lucky that I have a Mommy who understands the signs and does not force the situation with me. I became sensory and stood by the door asking for home, home. Soon enough we were singing lullaby’s. It became evident that at the same time, Opa ‘crashed’ at the hospital and had to be resuscitated. Mom and Dad rushed to the hospital. Mom just stopped at home to get some toys for me to play with as we knew the drill and we would be there a while. Fortunately Opa was revived and late in the afternoon when there was nothing more to be done, we headed off home. We are still waiting for some feedback from the Doctors on what happened and why.

Back at home, we played in the garden kicking goals and playing in the water sprinkler as the day was exceedingly hot again. This was followed by a brief trip to Cresta to collect Dad’s laptop and to go to the German Shop Lohmiller K&P to collect lots and lots of Lebkuchen. I got some puppets and Mommy got the teachers guides to Grade R. I sense some work coming my way. I ate as if I had been starved for a few days and Mommy obliged.

I am getting more words by the day and Mom and Dad are thrilled with my progress. I still however won’t share my words with other people. I am still grunting as I think appropriate.

Thursday, while getting ready to take Ally Granny’s cat to the vet, I was playing with some beads of Mom’s and slipped and smacked my face. What ensued was like a battle to get a pill into a cat’s mouth. Mom got an icepack from the fridge and I wriggled like a worm on a bait line, got away from her, then screaming and crying like a banshee fled from the room, Mom close behind me with icepack in hand. Eventually she caught me, held me, and ice-packed me. I soon fell asleep.

Mom headed off to the vet and came back with food for our own kitties and dog. I helped carry the things from the car and found an interesting looking Greenie. Mommy said it was like a toothbrush for Roxy. I promptly headed off outside to brush Roxy’s teeth for her. She was very compliant and was happy for the attention/abuse. Some more rain ensued in the afternoon and our Delta Park trip was curtailed to the house, but Aunty Bevlet came over with goodies galore and we ate and drank here at home.

Friday was a very different sort of day. Mom headed off to meet with Maddison’s Mommy to give her some moral support and Dad and I went to play up a storm at Yeesh in Woodmead. Maddison will be going for her first embolisation on Tuesday morning with Prof. Fourie, so please keep her in your prayers. You’ll recall from one of my previous blogs that little Maddison has an AVM in the Vein of Galen, similar to mine.

All too soon we were headed home for my snooze, and following that Mom had to go to Granny to take her to collect her car. After that the weekend took on a quiet note.

Saturday we couldn’t really decide what to do so we ended up doing nothing except a short trip to the Brightwater Commons to get some milk and bread. We ran into the van der Breggens and that was a nice serendipitous treat to see them.

Sunday we went to Robin and Di down the road and then had to head to the hospital. Opa is again not well, as he’s now been in ICU for 5 ½ weeks. We’re not too sure what to do as the doctors are just not returning our calls.

Well, that’s it for this week. Please keep little Maddison in your hearts and prayers tomorrow as she goes for her first embolisation with Prof Fourie.

Love,

Jarrod

Wow you have been a busy boy. Some of these photos really show what beautiful eyes you have. You must tell your ENT Dr Davidge-Pitts that I used to work with his brother Grant at SAA. We were good friends.
