Hi everyone,

Monday was a sad day, as Daddy headed off back to work. I knew I would really miss him so we decided to hit the post Christmas sales at Sandton and obviously as Granny is down the road she met up with us. It was great to run around Sandton, but eventually the shopping got to me and I passed out in my pram. Mommy made tons of phone calls to secure all my new appointments for the new year. Most importantly was the appointment with Gavin Shnier for my orthotics as I have horrible red marks on my feet from wearing them. Mommy also managed to secure our next holiday at the beginning of February. We didn’t actually get to have our holiday in December due to our circumstances – so after the 5th rescheduling we’re finally on our way. Daddy was very busy on his first day back at work, and had a 2 hour workshop so he arrived home exhausted. He did however managed to secure his leave and he managed to keep his squash game, to his delight.

Tuesday was also a flurry of activity as we started the day early with an appointment with Mommy. We stopped at the shops to get some groceries and headed back home. During my snooze, Mommy put me in the car to go visit with Maddison’s Mommy, Jenny. Maddison has been struggling with air-way problems since her last surgery and other than that she could be coming home. The two mommies had lovely coffee and chats, and I woke briefly to see where I was and then was shipped back in the car asleep.

Soon it was time for Robin and Di to come over; they had kept my Christmas present for me all this time and came to deliver it to me. I was very excited. It was my very first gardening set. Mommy allowed me to play with it, with water, but not sand. All too soon everyone had to leave and I had to head off to bed.

Wednesday was another exciting day. Mommy, Daddy and I headed off to my new school, to do a meet and greet with teacher Nicki. All went really well and Mommy and Daddy were really thrilled that I settled so quickly. The rest of the morning was spent getting ready for school. Next I headed off to the paediatrician’s office to have my MMR shots. We’ve been putting this off for a long time due to my last surgery recovery being slow. Also the odd cold here and there have put pay to these being done on schedule. I did wail, I will have everyone know, and announced that I was going and ‘goodbye everybody’ before I even got to the nurses office. You can’t trick an ex ICU baby. Even though Mommy tried to explain, I wasn’t having any of it. Mommy did however relent to a guilt gift of a little talking Thomas the Tank engine.

Granny arrived late that afternoon as Mommy and Daddy were going out to dinner with Aunty Gillian and Uncle Oliver. They met at Monte Casino and had a lovely evening reminiscing about old times. They are heading back to the USA on Sunday night after two weeks here; I wish they could stay longer, but they have new adventures ahead of them when they get back to Minnesota.

When the folks got back home, Granny offered to look after me for the whole night. However she told my folks that she was very surprised at how stressed I was when I slept. Eventually I called Mommy so much that Granny got relieved of sleepless night, and Mommy started hers.

Thursday was my first day of school, and perhaps it was badly timed with my shots, as I was very grumpy, unaccustomedly so. I managed for about an hour and a half, but my crying turned to shrieking and Mommy was called. I slept for the rest of the day.

School on Friday was interesting, as Mommy stayed on the suggestion of the teacher. She was however relegated to the corner like a naughty little girl. I wonder if she knows now what it’s like to be on a time-out. I managed to get through a good deal more of the morning without asking for Mommy, so we’ll see how it goes for next week. We headed off to the book store on Friday afternoon and then to the Spur for a steak. I played till I dropped. Dropped my pants that is, much to my parents disapproval. They had to go all the way through the maze of jungle gym, over two storeys, to retrieve them. I got a good scrubbing because of all the playing I did on Friday. I was quite proud of myself. I also had my first ‘cat in a hat’ book experience that night, as one of my new books was a Dr Seuss.

The weather kept us in on Saturday, but ironically we were warned of floods, but none were forthcoming, it was cold and dreary but no rain. We just played at home with Lego most of the day.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at Rossini’s at Cresta. Some miscellaneous shopping was done as well. Back home I spent the afternoon playing with all my train-sets – what a lovely time I had. Late afternoon Aunty Gillian and Uncle Oliver arrived for their last visit before Dad had to take them to the airport. Their flight was really late and the Gautrain had already stopped running for the day so Daddy drove them all the way there. I was already fast asleep by then.

My cute expression of the week happened on Friday evening, as I was falling asleep in bed with Mommy. I announced to Mommy that ‘Nunu was happy’. Mom asked me if my heart was happy to which I said ‘Nunu heart happy!’

‘Til next week,

Jay-Bee
