Hello everyone!

Things are getting really exciting around the house as we prepare to go on holiday to Cape Town next Sunday. I can hardly wait! Mom and Dad have rescheduled this holiday at least five times already with all the unknowns we were dealing with over the past few months, but now it’s firm, and we’re going! So this time next week I’ll be writing from the fair Cape. Not only am I extremely excited about the holiday, but also the flight, as I now get my own seat on the plane. I’m beginning to feel like a big boy!

But before I get ahead of myself and my exciting holiday, let me chat about the past week.

The rain persisted on and off during the week. The garden is looking stunning as a result – very very green indeed. Daddy isn’t risking the weather by bike, so he’s been driving to work by car. Its making him miserable having to sit and wait in traffic. So on Monday after Mom and I dispatched Dad off to work, Mom and I headed off to school / play group, for me.

My post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSS) from ICU still haunts me, and as a result going to school and being separated from my Mommy is incredibly stressful for me. I don’t stay at school long, and teacher Nicky has been extremely accommodating and supportive. Back home I had a marathon snooze. In the afternoon, once Dad was home, I spent some time outside gardening with my new gardening set from Robin and Di. What fun! I persevered despite it starting to rain, but eventually Dad had to drag me away and indoors.

On Tuesday I cried for the entire time I was at school, and as a result I spent a good deal of time sleeping afterward to deal with the stress, also the phenomenal headache from the backpressure from my AVM.

Wednesday was a better day, as I only had to be a school for a short period. During the morning I had an appointment with Gavin, the orthotist, to determine how my leg muscles were developing since having had orthotics put in my shoes in December. He was very happy with my progress. Afterward we delivered a blanket to baby Kate and much later we received a message that we were invited to go to dinner with my cousins, unfortunately it came too late and I was already asleep.

All three of us headed off to see Dr Melodie de Jager of BabyGym on Thursday morning. This was for a general catch-up and an assessment of my progress. While Mom and Dad chatted to Melodie about my progress I explored the house. Occasionally I’d pop into the meeting to say hi. Mom and Dad would generally use the opportunity to demonstrate one of my talents to Melodie, such as story-telling, knock-knock, my approach to counting, etc. Melodie was absolutely thrilled! She was flabbergasted at my progress despite all my challenges. In some areas, such as social interaction I was a couple of years ahead of the curve. She was most impressed about my ability to make eye contact and hold people’s gaze in conversation. In all honesty, I owe much of my progress to my Mommy for be so dedicated to my progress and development in an attempt to catch-up my lost months of development.

Back home, we bid Dad farewell as Mom and I headed off to school for me. As we were leaving Dad welcomed some guests he had scheduled a meeting with to continue winding up Opa and Oma’s deceased estates. In the afternoon, after my snooze, Mom and I met up with Granny at Cresta to do some shopping.

Friday was predominantly spent grocery shopping, so I’m not going to go into those boring details!

We started off Saturday by having breakfast at the local Wimpy. I played up a storm in the kids play area. En route to Granny after breakfast, we popped into the Vodashop to drop off Mommy’s Blackberry which was faulty. I really feel sorry for Mommy being out of touch for the next few weeks. At Granny’s place we played outside and eventually I was in the pool having a dip and splashing Granny – I managed to ensure she was sopping wet without her even getting into the pool. In the evening Tim arrived to fix a plumbing problem in the bathroom; I was ready to snooze by the time he had left.

Sunday was a lazy day, starting off with rain once again. It cleared beautifully during the day but the afternoon started threatening with thunderstorms. Poor Roxy was beside herself with fear, so I sat in the pet doughnut with her under Dad’s desk to try and calm her down.

Well, that’s it for this week.

Lots of love,

Jay-Bee
