Hi all!

By 10 o’clock on Monday morning, I had been swinging, jumping on the trampoline and been for a swim in the pool… yes a real swim. I played with toys in the pool, helped Mom clean my step and went I for a good dunk.

We rushed to get going after that as we had an appointment with Granny to help her do some admin, so we met her at Sandton. I ran around the centre with great gusto and made everyone look for me while I hid in the clothes racks.

After lunch and a nap, we headed off home, no sooner were we there and Mom saw the sun come out and said we were off to the HaaHoo Park; I haven’t been so happy in my short life, to see that sun come out. What made it extra special was that Roxy came with. Although she was a bit of a handful in the car she loved being out in the open air with us. We played up a storm, and literally it was a great big storm cloud starting its business that sent us on our way.

Back at home Mom allowed me to help with washing my pram and the car. We were both soaked at the end of it, along with the dog, the driveway and almost 2 cats. It was great fun. Then off for a warming bath. Following which I announced to Mommy that I needed to try on my new Wellingtons. I announced that they were riding boots like Woody the Cowboy had and I quickly mounted my beetle and shouted giddy up Bullseye as I charged up and down the passage.

Having heard Daddy arrive home, I rushed to the door to greet him and promptly got up onto the lounge coffee table to do a gumboot dance like I had seen Sid on CBeeBies do. My parents were thrilled. Fortunately for me, my parents are more likely to grab a camera and not me. My speech abilities also took on a new approach today, I sing la la la la la la la la la la along with Mom to nursery rhymes. I also count every second number, so if Mommy says 1, I say 2, Mommy says 3, and I say 4 and so on. However I still prefer to count backwards from 9. I also let my parents know that it was 5 sleeps till Cape Town, by showing 5 fingers. I started packing my toy bag for the plane, five days early, what great excitement.

Tuesday we headed off to school with the hopes that it would have a better result than last week. Mommy is dreading doing school all over again, she says it wasn’t so good the first time. I think she will get used to it. Daddy took me to school and Mommy came to sit with me an hour later. I did well for that hour, but all I remember is crying like crazy. One good thing about school was that it was Olivia’s birthday so we had cake and made her a crown, it was very cool, my first school birthday party. I have also learned teacher Nicky’s name and kept running to her and showing her things I had made. The rain put a damper on our outside time, but we were allowed out to eat cupcakes.

I was soon asleep after my school morning. When I woke from my midday snooze, I quickly informed Mom that it was lunch time. I then headed outside for bubbles and some gardening along with some swimming, I decided to see if my orthotics where up for a swim and while Mom wasn’t looking I dumped them into the pool. They float. Then the weather changed, and I then became the most mischievous little boy on the face of the earth. I couldn’t concentrate and kept taking on tasks that resulted in the house being quite devastated, I should add to this, so was Mom. She was very glad to see Dad when he arrived.

Wednesday was errand day. The Post Office, the Bank and it was booorrring, so I slept through it all. When I woke up, Mom let me run around the shopping centre, as it was still raining outside. We stopped to get me a bite to eat and some organic milk (a new favourite) and I noshed down in my pram. We then headed to Petru at Lo Muhler to see what was new at the German shop. I got a brand new pen that has 10 different colours in it. I’m looking forward to using it as Mommy said it was for our trip to Cape Town.

Thursday was another busy day. It should be noted at this juncture, that I knew it was a busy day and hence I woke particularly early: 04:30, in order to get going with all that had to be done. My parents did not share my enthusiasm. Daddy eventually relented at 05:00 because that’s his favourite time of day. Mommy stayed firmly and immovably planted in bed. We eventually got going with the day and with a new BeSharpBeetles class. What fun, I immediately ran to teacher Liesel to give her a hug, and you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for an hour. I was the only boy in the class, and the only one who was not shy, so I danced in the middle of the circle, showed off my muscles by doing press ups and generally just enjoyed myself. In particular when teacher Liesel said we should shake our maracas like a train, so making the movements of the wheels of a train my muso friends and I did just so. I did try to do some singing, but Mommy says it will improve over time, and with some practice.

Following music we headed off to school. My school used to offer music, but they don’t any more. I was very excited to see teacher Nicky and ran to give her a hug too. I stayed with her most of the afternoon and only asked for Mom twice. Mom tried to make herself invisible outside, a hard task she says, when you’re 5 x the size of the littlies. However school was even more awesome because the sun came out to play with us. We were donned in our hats and sunblock and after a snack headed into the bright day. We then retreated to the coolness of the outside cover to draw with chalk. Eventually we lay on the carpet, and got a bit of a cleaning and listened to a story, then sang the goodbye song. Suddenly out of nowhere all our carers arrived to pick us up. I called to Mom to pick me up and I literally fell asleep on her shoulder on the way to the car.

Mom let me sleep off the day and on waking, I found Daddy hard at work with reams and reams of paper to transcribe and processes to elaborate on and a business case to do. I felt really sorry for him and we spent most of our time on the other side of the house giving him his study to work in.

When he surfaced for a short break, Mommy suggested a trip to Hyde Park to grab a bite and then the caveat to hit the Crabtree and Evelyn sale. She’s an addict, not in rehab though. We did however manage to get me 5 new reading books, perfect for a little 2 year old boy. I’m quite excited. Also whilst in the toy store we found a marble run that Daddy wants. However it was named in German: Holtz-Kugel Bahn. I promptly repeated my first German words, Kugel Bahn. My folks were thrilled, but I could see them wondering if that was the start of them losing their own secret little language. We stopped at Fratelli, but I didn’t want anything on the menu. The only thing that appealed to me was deconstructing the piece of pizza before me. My parents both looked at each other and in unison said, “somethings wrong”. I suppose they’ve gotten used to making sure I’m ok all the time that any change in behaviour can be seen as some sign. Quickly the bill was ordered and we were on our way. It did prove a difficult night, as I was congested and icky in general so woke frequently, but Carvol and eucalyptus oil did the trick.

Friday was SUNNY! And I had been promised a trip to the HaaHoo Park if it was. I made no bones about the promise and did not let go of the idea going on and on about it. Mommy said we were waiting for Granny. As Granny’s car pulled up I was shouting, “Granny’s here, Granny’s here. Look Mom Look!”, sure enough Mom arrived to open for Granny.

At the HaaHoo park we trudged our way through the bog that had formed with so much rain so close to the water table, we wished we had brought our wellington boots with. My orthotics came off a few times because they got stuck in the sticky mud. Nevertheless I was all over the place showing Granny and giving her heart failure as to how well I had improved since last time she had seen me there. Granny was very complimentary.

At Pick ‘n Pay to get Kitty food and detergent for next week, I ran next to Granny saying the following phrase to her, “Look Granny/Nana I got it at home”, to everything in store. That phrase rolls easily off the tongue. I refused my favourite hake snacks for the ride home and decided I had had enough.

Asleep shortly thereafter when I woke everyone had gone home. So I sat on the bed and waited for some good soul to come save me. Turns out it was Mommy with a bowl of soft cheeses, tomatoes and ham, along with a bottle of water. This did the trick and soon we were bouncing around on the bed together. Nothing like afternoon snacks.

Dad was home but working again, but he took a break to speak to Robin and Cassie the Lab while they were out for a walk. Cassie came inside and I got to give her pats and rubs, I even fetched a stick for her. On departing we gave Robin some cat mint for their kitties, they go made over the stuff.

Soon we settled into the usual routine except I was not eating again, so out came the Salmon, Sweet Potato and yoghurt, I ate all of those. I made Mommy start reading my Toy Story 2 book I got a couple of weeks ago. Mommy was very impressed that I managed to listen intently for 30 minutes. When the lights went off Mommy got a big surprise. My Mickey Mouse torch suddenly came on. I’m trying to pretend it did this on its own, so don’t give me away. “Look Mommy a Bigger Mickey” Did I give myself away?

Saturday was interesting and weird. We headed out early to the storage unit to take some Christmas decorations back and some of my toys from a toy clean out. Then we headed to The Mint to get some coins and back home to collect some food for a baby-shower that Mommy was going to in the afternoon. Mommy needed to do some errands and we went to Lifestyle to see if we could help her, but we ended up having coffee and playing while Mom found her requirements. She was happy. While I was asleep for the morning, Mommy headed off to Nina for the shower. She was quite happy when she came back so all went well, or was that the champagne? We headed off to collect Granny as “we are leaving on a jet-plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again.”

This morning we woke up very very early, and pretty soon, after hectically running around the house, we were ready to leave for the airport. We arrived at the airport and the Valet Parking whisked our car away after we got out at the drop-off zone. There was still plenty of time so we chilled out in the Executive Lounge waiting to board. On the flight I had my very own seat, and I simply drew pictures on taxi and take-off. Halfway into the flight I opted for a snooze, and I awoke just before we landed. We collected our rental car and headed off to the Aquarius Suites in Bloubergstrand. Unfortunately our suite wasn’t ready when we tried to check in, but fortunately cousin Linda phoned at that exact moment and suggested we come around for lunch. We immediately accepted! At cousin Linda’s place hugs were dished out all round. It was so awesome to see Linda and Lisa again, and the two little girls Jenna and Erin. Sheryl, Linda’s sister, was also there, as she is now Linda’s neighbour and lives right next door to Linda. I spent some time outside gardening with Wayne, and inside watching Tangled with Jenna and Erin.

After an awesome lunch it was time for my snooze, and we headed back to our hotel – this time the suite was ready and we settled down nicely. The accommodation is beautiful with a view of The Mountain. The suite is appointed exquisitely with the perfect balance of minimalism and luxury, and everything is white. Mom and Dad said they’ll stay forever!

I was feeling a little under the weather during the afternoon, but after some meds we all headed down to the beach at Big Bay before sunset to get our feet wet. It was wonderful watching the windsurfers against the backdrop of the setting sun. Despite the sea being cold, we did run through the water having lots of fun.

Well, that’s it for now – next week I’ll tell you all about my holiday.

Love,

Jay-Bee
