Well it’s been rather a boring week for me to report on, but considering all the ‘adventures’ last week, I suppose it was called for. I had good long sleeps allowing my brain to heal as well from what is now thought to be a small stroke. Unfortunately we are no closer to understanding what happened last week and whether or not it will happen again.

Daddy spent a good deal of time freezing at conferences this week, as the temperatures dropped significantly this week. Despite being semi-outdoors at Soccer City for IBM’s 100 year celebration, Dad was beaming from ear to ear, as Garry Kasparov was the keynote speaker. On top of this, Dad also ensured that all the scans and reports got to all the correct doctors, visiting three hospitals in one day.

This week saw me do nothing more strenuous than go to music. I wasn’t even allowed to play on the equipment outside with my friends. Partly this was due to being kept out of the sun and monitored closely. I was still showing signs of instability on my legs and a little bit of stumbling around. According to Mom I have been miserable and screechy all week, this is also a warning sign for the folks as it happens. I have been medicated as well for obvious headaches, and at times I’ve been inconsolable. Mommy ensured that a consistent and obvious sensory programme was instituted very quickly. It was like back to old times when I was released from hospital for the first time. I was allowed to unpack my entire toy cupboard in order to find all my old, ‘sensory’ toys.

I was however allowed to play on my own jungle-gym at home that I was familiar with. I managed to get some adrenaline kicks by doing some things I hadn’t done before. Much to my Mom’s horror.

Granny was still staying with us, allowing her feet to heal and she came and sat on a lounger and watched me play and blew tons of bubbles for me outside.

I used all the remotes in the house to phone all my friends and remind them that it was my ‘Happy Birthday’ soon. Granny went home on Friday and I made sure I phoned her on Saturday and Sunday to tell her to come home and not to forget it was my ‘Happy Birthday’ and was she coming?

On Wednesday we had a mini celebration in honour of two vastly different commemorative days; the first being Africa day, for which Google once again changed its logo, the second being Towel Day (as in “don’t panic, grab a towel”) in celebration of the life and works of Douglas Adams.

Friday afternoon Mom hosted tea for Bev and Claire, which was real fun. We sat outside for the first part of the afternoon enjoying the sun’s final rays. Later we found ourselves in the lounge where Dad had put the heater on full blast.

Saturday and Sunday were spent packing up Opa and Oma’s house for the new owner. I was bored out of my mind while my folks packed and moved things around. I managed to get into a lot of trouble and redistributed piles of goods as often as I could. This made it quite difficult for my parents, which made Daddy retort that I was moving deck chairs on the titanic. Daddy was quite emotional and often had to take some breaks away from the packing.

Well, that’s it for this week.

Lots of love,

Jarrod

Oh you do make me smile Jarrod! Your week may have seemed boring to you, but to me it sounds quite interesting and full! I just LOVE the photo’s of you in the leaves – reminds me of our visit to Canada – such a pretty time of the year even if Daddy had to freeze at a conference at Soccer City! I remember that day, because I was trying to get the IBM blankets for Aunty Melanie’s #TBD. I e mailed the lady that Daddy suggested and she has been quite rude and not even acknowledged my letter – never do that my boy – always answer, it is good manners. But you are clever, you know this 🙂 I spoke to your friend Jared yesterday and he has almost fully recovered from a fall off his mountain bike a few weeks ago where he broke two ribs and two fingers! As you know he is a tennis coach so it has been quite tough for him. he has to play with his ribs strapped tightly so they don’t jiggle around! Well, I am sure you are fast asleep. Looking forward to hearing what this next week holds for you. Have a great week little one – no more Titanic moves hey! Much Love Lyn

You are an incredibly lucky young man to have such attentive and alert parents. Keep getting better and don’t be in a hurry – take it easy.
