I still wasn’t feeling too well on Monday morning so Mom got me an appointment with Nicoletta at midday. I was really looking forward to seeing Nicoletta again, although the circumstances under which I see her aren’t always the nicest.

When we arrived at her rooms I chatted to her all about my shoes – I can’t tell you why, it just seemed topical at the time! She did a thorough examination of me and deduced that I might have a perforated eardrum – a visit to Dr Keith Davidge-Pitts was needed to confirm this.

A late snooze followed in the afternoon. Dad bathed me once he was home and pretty soon afterward I was in bed. Once I was asleep Dad headed off to gym to play squash. I woke up when he got home and decided to have a “midnight” snack, as Daddy was naughty and bought crisps and cool drinks after gym on his way home. The rustling of the chip packets woke me!

It was my last Be Sharp Beetles music class for the term on Tuesday, so I was a little sad. Because I knew I wouldn’t be back at music for a while I tried really hard. As the class ended I carried on singing entertaining all my fellow musos!

At home I watched with intrigue how a spider weaved a web on my jungle gym. It was really amazing to see it working. I also had a really successful day counting, right up to six items. Mom was thrilled.

In the afternoon Sharon and little Matthew arrived for a visit. Marc had already left to go back home to Australia. As they arrived I announced that Matthew needed a blanket and toys and then I stormed off to my room to get a nice soft blanket for him to lie and play on, and some of my little boy toys.

On Wednesday Mom managed to get an appointment for me with Dr Davidge-Pitts, just after my cooking. It would be a push, but we felt there’d be enough time for both. At cooking we made oat biscuits. I thoroughly enjoyed mixing the ingredients together, and then while the biscuits were baking I decorated a little cake box for Daddy to put the biscuits in.

We rushed from cooking to Morningside Medi Clinic for my ENT appointment with Dr Keith. Dad was already there waiting for us. I rushed to him and gave him my newly baked biscuits in the box I decorated for him. He was thrilled. He also immediately tucked into the biscuits, and loved them. Mom and I also had a few.

I stormed around MMC while we waited our turn to see Dr Keith. It was our turn so Dad came looking for us and we rushed back to his rooms. It was really awesome seeing Dr Keith Davidge-Pitts again. We had a nice chat and caught up with my latest going-ons, as well as the stroke/TIA I had in May. He examined my ears and nose through a hectic microscope and announced that my eardrums were fine and I didn’t need more grommets.

Although we were relieved with the news about my eardrums it did lead to more questions about why I was struggling with my balance. It’s sad but we suspect that the stroke/TIA in May may have affected my vestibular nerves.

After saying good bye to Dr Davidge-Pitts we headed to Dr Ron’s offices around the atrium to say hi. He was with a patient so we decided to go to the coffee shop and pop by to say hi to him a little later. To our surprise, he popped down to the coffee shop and visited with us for a while. It was so nice to see him again.

On Thursday we went to Orangto Tangos with Sharon and Matthew, as it was a perfect place for little Matthew to play. We had a really great time.

Friday was Mom and Dad’s 16th wedding anniversary. Dad took the day off so we could be together as a little family. First on the agenda was a visit to Lauren, my occupational therapist, for an assessment. We hadn’t seen her in a long while so it was really great to catch up with her again.

We shared all the info with Lauren that we’d also shared with Dr Ron and Dr Keith. Lauren made lots of notes and then started an assessment on me; I had to do a whole lot of tasks and listen intently. Unfortunately the results weren’t good, but as is practice Lauren always does two assessments, so next week I’m going back for a second assessment. Hopefully that will go better, but as it stands now, I have major issues with my development. Mom and Dad were pretty sombre at the news.

After seeing Lauren we opted for a family breakfast. First we popped in to Norscot Manor, but they were cutting down trees, so it was really noisy, dangerous and smelt of exhaust fumes from the power saws. The only other kid-friendly place with lots of play space for me was the Spur, so we ended up there. A rugby game with South Africa was happening at the same time, so the restaurant was full of green clad people cheering on South Africa. Back home we had a team snooze.

We spent most of Saturday and Sunday at home. I was running a temperature and felt very sensory, so I went for a long snooze. Mom went to lunch to celebrate Brenda, Sharon’s sister’s birthday. Dad stayed home to look after me. I didn’t mind too much being indoors as it had started raining and it was very overcast so it was real indoors weather. We were all really happy it had started to rain, as the garden was very dry.

Sunday the rain and overcast weather persisted, but between the drizzle and rain I did manage to play on my jungle gym and swing a little. Now my tummy was also upset, on top of a temperature. We all thought it best to stay home then. Dad continued cutting down the privet on Sunday afternoon, and by early evening he was finished. He was quite chuffed with himself, as he didn’t fall or injury himself, which seems common when he’s cutting trees (see Daddy Kaboom)

We were supposed to go to Michelle and Daneel’s for dinner, but because I wasn’t well we had to cancel. To our surprise, Michelle didn’t want us excluded from the feast and brought us dinner before her other guests arrived! We were thrilled!

Before I finish, a quick thirteenth Happy Birthday to Google for Tuesday. Daddy got a very apt birthday present from Sharon and Marc that suited Google and Dad’s birthday perfectly: a cover for his iPad that read “Keep Calm and Google It”.

Til next week!

Love,

Jarrod
