Because Granny stayed over last Sunday, she drove with us to school on Monday morning. It was a really nice change to my usual routine. After school I had a really long afternoon snooze. When I woke up, Daddy and I watched the Lorax. Even through I’ve seen it often, I still giggle at the same scenes every time. For example, right at the beginning when the homeowner pumps up the plastic hedge too much and it bursts. Or the singing fish slide into the river!

I then decided it was time to play with my Toy Story train (yes, I’m still train besotted). While I was playing Dad decided it was time to experiment and opened a box with a dynamo torch kit in it. He and I assembled it and then we headed into dark corners of the house to test it out.

As it was starting to get dusk, outside was our next test site. We were distracted by the lovely evening and ended up swinging and jumping on the trampoline. Just before the last light disappeared I helped Daddy folded back the branches of our rose bush.

At school on Tuesday I got a slight bite on my wrist from someone. No one saw it happen, and I wasn’t the wiser. After school Mommy took me with her to the office and then we went on to speech with Vicky. I slept on the way home. In the early evening, when I woke up from my snooze, Mommy and Daddy presented me with a gift from Nikon SA. They’re one of Mommy’s exhibitors and after hearing my story, and that I love taking pictures, they decided I needed my own camera.

I unpacked the bag and ripped open the gift wrap. Inside was a Nikon back pack to hold my brand new Nikon camera – a Coolpix which can take videos and photos, and even works underwater! It is also drop proof, ideal for a little guy like me. I was over the moon and immediately started taking photos of everything around the house. I was so thrilled with my camera that I even slept with it!

The moment I opened my eyes on Wednesday morning I asked ‘What are we going to do today?’ to which Mommy answered ‘You’re going to school.’ I protested and said ‘But I was there yesterday already! I can’t keep going!’ I lost the battle, and ended up going to school. At school we practiced for our concert the next day, and afterward Mommy took me to Sandton City where I ran around taking photos with my new camera.

Back home in the afternoon I played, you guessed it, trains. Daddy and I went to K&P Lohmiller in Cresta for German sweets and goodies, as it was St Nicholas day the next day. I had the privilege of seeing some of my goodies before I got them the next morning!

Dad and I also popped into the Spar to buy some basic groceries, and there Daddy chatted to Monika, an old co-worker. I got pretty bored listening to them chatting so I opted to fill the shopping trolley myself. I had a whale of a time. I don’t understand why Daddy took most of the things out again.

In the evening we all watched Ice Age and I giggled until I was red in the face each time Scrat was chasing, and losing, his acorn. Before going to bed I polished my wellington boots and made sure they were sparkling clean, so St Nicholas could fill them with lots of goodies.

I was thrilled to find my wellington boots overflowing with goodies on Thursday morning for St Nicholas day. It felt like a mini-Christmas. Not only were there all the goodies that Daddy and I bought the day before, but I also found a Minions DVD amongst my haul. If you haven’t heard of the Minions, they’re the little yellow guys that help out Mr Gru in Despicable Me.

Mom, Dad and I all drove to school together afterward. It was concert day and I was super excited. Mom and Dad dropped me off at school for an hour before my concert was scheduled to start. Teacher B had set up a massive marquee with a stage in the parking lot.

It was hectic and hot and it felt like forever waiting for our turn to go onto stage. Our theme was ‘Celebrating Me’, and every class had a chance to sing something different. We even had make-up on and big bow ties. My class and I sang Miss Polly Had A Dolly and If You Happy And You Know It. After belting out the lyrics at the top of our voices we were each handed a personalised certificate.

After the concert was over our parents collected our report books and we all chatted and played. Granny was also at the concert and she was so proud of me that she felt I deserved a new train! So afterward we went to Toys-R-Us where I chose Knapford Station Megabloks.

Back home, after a snooze, I built my station and played with Lego’s the rest of the day. In the evening Dad and I popped out to get pizzas, and while eating pizza, I carried on playing with my trains. No resting here!

As there was no school on Friday, Mommy stayed home with me for the morning. Mid-morning we went to see Lauren for my OT and afterward Mommy dropped me off at Granny’s place where I spent the afternoon while Mommy popped into the office for a couple of hours. I swam and played and we had a really great time.

When Mommy collected me in the afternoon from Granny’s place we all heard a loud crying from a nearby drain. There we found a tiny little kitten there, that had barely opened its eyes. Mommy suspects it’s no more than a couple of weeks old. The kitten’s mommy was nowhere to be seen so Mom and I decided to rescue it.

At home the kitten settled down very quickly. It’s been through a couple of names already, like Bingo, Missy and some others. We’ll settle on a name next week. She ate slowly but well and slept in my cot for most of the night, where Mommy had made a bed for it. During the early hours of the morning she decided to climb into bed with us and snooze there for the rest of the morning.

On Saturday we were all up quite early, and Missy was looking a lot better. Even her coat was more glossy. We suspect she was quite dehydrated and hungry when we found her. Mid-morning Missy, after some serious play with my trains, decided it was time to snooze. We all cuddled up with her, and soon all four of us had passed out!

We spent the rest of the day at home playing with Missy and socialising her with Mickey, which went surprisingly well.

Sunday morning we met Raymond and Diane and their little kids Adam and Emma at Bambanani in Melville. It was so awesome to meet some new friends and we played up a storm. Bambanani has a huge climbing section and we all got down to doing some serious playing and climbing. In the ‘cellar’ is a ‘shop’ where we did shopping, complete with shopping baskets and trolleys.

Pretty soon it was midday and I was starting to get really tired. Mommy had also taken a fall in a hole on the play-turf and was really sore, so it was time to head home. I snoozed for the rest of the afternoon and when I woke up it was storming outside and there were remnants of hailstones in the garden from the hailstorm I’d slept through.

Well that’s it for this week!

Love,

Jarrod
