Happy Easter! But before I get into today’s awesome festivities, let me get the rest of the week done and dusted first. Last Sunday night, after I published my blog, Mommy treated me to the most amazing pedicure and foot message. As if that wasn’t nice enough, I got a deep muscle backrub afterward too. That night, as the saying goes, I slept like a baby.

School on Monday was awesome. We learned the LetterLand letter ‘v’; so everything we spoke about started with a ‘v’, such as Vicky violet’s violin vest is a vase! And lots of rhymes like that. I also giggled and screamed and fell off trees like monkeys. It was such fun. I also did a storyboard with Mom, from left to right. Daddy arrived home with a Lindt bunny for me in the evening. I was thrilled. As a ‘thank you’, I took Daddy through my story, and recited it exactly as I had described it to Mommy earlier in the day. As I was finishing my story with Daddy before bedtime I passed a wind, and in mid sentence I said to Dad, “oh sorry, that was my bum talking”. Mom and Dad howled with laughter! Afterward I sang “When you see a crocodile” with Mommy, and then she started singing do, ray, me, fah, so, lah, tea with me. Daddy doesn’t know the words so well, so as Mommy got to a lyric he knew, he screamed it at the top of his voice. Thankfully we’re all family.

Tuesday I had to leave school early as I had OT with Lauren. We had an awesome session. Later we headed to the Chinese Toy Store, where I got spoilt rotten, again. One of the things I got was a domino set (the falling kind, not the playing kind) and in the evening Dad and I set them up in the passage and watched them fall over, and set them up again, and watched them fall over. It was lots of fun!

School term ended on Wednesday, so I took Easter Eggs to all my friends at school. For the occasion, I wore bunny ears, and everyone was really thrilled. In the afternoon when Mom collected me, tragedy struck. She fell trying to chase me and ended up breaking her foot. Dad was galvanised into action and met us at home. Mom dropped me of with Dad, while Mom went to Dr Anthony, who immediately ordered x-rays. Back home, Mom and Dad examined the x-rays and after consulting Dr Anthony telephonically, we headed back to Dr Anthony and we realised Mom needed an orthocast. Brilliant! My orthocast Gavin is really awesome – he created my orthotics and has developed prosthesis for sportsmen and women. We arrived at his offices just before closing, and sadly he wasn’t there – he was at a workshop. However, Paige, his partner, immediately attended to Mommy. Within a few minutes a moon boot was fitted and directions were given to Mommy as to how to deal with the device. I felt really bad for Mommy, and no amount of drugs helped her with the pain the Jones’ Fracture in her foot caused for the next couple of days.

Thursday I was off school, but Mommy had an appointment so I was dropped off at Granny’s. I felt so bad for Mom as she really struggled to get around. Fortunately she broke her left foot, and the Estate is an automatic, making life so much easier for her. Back home Mom just chilled while I played. I told her to take a load off; and I played quietly nearby. Later, Dad arrived home, beaming. His new camera had arrived. He’d been waiting for this moment for almost four weeks now.

It was Good Friday on Friday, so Dad was home for the day. Mommy was still very sore and hobbled about in pain. Granny came to help out and she and I played up a storm. Just about the entire day was spent at home – not much is open on Good Friday, so we made our own fun for the day.

On Saturday there was lots of activity around the house – that only meant one thing: visitors! Yep, the whole family were coming to our house for a late breakfast on Easter Sunday. Dad reassembled the dining room table that Mommy had restored. And when Granny arrived, she and Mommy went shopping for ‘breakfastie type things’. Dad and I, not great fans of food shopping, opted out and spent a couple of hours at OrangoTangos. The rest of the day was spent prepping for Easter Sunday.

Sunday morning, after waking up, Mom and Dad put me in a warm jacket and wellingtons. Dad had apparently spotted the Easter Bunny in the garden. Armed with a big basket, we headed out into the garden. Sure enough, throughout the garden there were toys, eggs, and sweets. I moved from one to the next, to the next. Eventually my basket was overflowing, so Mom and Dad took armfuls of goodies to help me. It was an awesome haul. After my Easter Egg Hunt, we quickly popped out to Fourno’s for fresh pastries.

We were back home just in time as the family arrived. It was stunning having everyone visit. Aunty Kim, Ronnie, Shannon, Ryan, Tammy, Uncle Garth and Kyle all arrived, and instantly there were festivities going on. Ronnie even brought little Athena, his puppy Jack Russell. Her and I immediately made friends. Drinks were handed out and Daddy started making bacon, bangers and minute steaks on the gas braai. Yum! We had a great great breakfast. After breakfast, more chocolates and gifts were dished out. I was really being spoilt.

Next we were ushered out the house to get to the Barnyard at Cresta for the Big Top Rock show. It was a stunning show, with music spanning all eras and included The Doors, U2, Shakira, Enrico Iglesias, The Beatles, Black Eyed Peas, and many others. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, there were even aerial acrobats in the show, and amongst the guys and gals on stage there were fire dancers. What a show. Admittedly, having a bad cold, I did sleep through some of the show, but I bopped along with the best of them whenever I could. Mom and Dad had to restrain me from heading into the mosh pit and leading a new dance craze.

After the show, we all headed back to our home, for another Easter Egg hunt. This time it was me and Kyle dashing about the garden looking for goodies. Again the haul was awesome. Sadly the day turned to dusk and everyone had to leave. I protested bitterly stating “my people must stay”! Worst of all the little Jack Russell, whom I really neeeeeeded, was also heading home. The big surprise was that Granny arrived just before dark. She’d decided to stay over for the evening.

Well, that’s it for this week. I’m really wishing my Mommy a very speedy recovery from her broken foot. Also, my deepest condolences go out to Uncle Oliver and Aunty Gillian. We received the news on Monday evening that Aunty Gillian’s Mom, Joan, had passed away after a long battle with illness. Sending Uncle Oliver, Aunty Gillian, and my cousins Ryan and Kirsten lots of love at this time.

‘Til next week.

Love

Jarrod
