On Monday I surprised my Mom by arriving after school without my underpants! I had no idea where I left them, and I was even trying to convince her that I actually didn’t arrive at school with any. She wouldn’t have any of that, so Mommy searched the school for my elusive underpants – to no avail.

In the afternoon at home, Dad and I fixed the lawnmower. One of the cables had frayed and I expertly handed Daddy screwdrivers, monkey wrenches, spanners, pliers etc. to help him with the repair. I even held the wires steady while Dad soldered them together. Afterwards we had a nice long swim, despite the water being a little on the chilly side.

Tuesday Mommy took me to Vicky for my speech therapy. It’s a real schlep getting there now, as she’s moved to Sunninghill, just off Witkoppen Drive.

On Wednesday I got a Beetle Maestro Certificate for music. I was thrilled! In the afternoon Mommy did a really really brave thing – she took me and the dogs to the bike park. We met Ryan and Claudi there and the two of us stormed around the track, dogs in tow. I thought Mommy coped exceptionally well with two poorly trained dogs. And me.

During the afternoon Ryan got stung by a bee and between Claudi and Mommy they managed to swipe the sting out with a credit card. Who said plastic was always bad? Back home Daddy took huge pity on Mommy as she looked exhausted, tumbling out the car with two over excited dogs. In the evening there was a massive downpour.

After school on Thursday Mom and I popped into Toy Zone to check out the selection of available Thomas merchandise, for my “people” to buy me for Christmas, as well as to get my little friends some gifts too. I couldn’t find Annie and Clarabel for Thomas anywhere.

In the afternoon Dad arrived home with my new passport. I was thrilled to have my own travel document, and I was even more impressed that it took only four working days to prepare!

On Friday morning Daddy left a little earlier than usual – he had an appointment in Sunninghill. Needless to say he opted to go by bike. The traffic in that part of the world is so bad that you have to leave pre-dawn to actually get there on time.

At school on Friday I made reindeer horns which I wore for the rest of the day. Bike Friday was followed mid-morning by Mommy collecting me to go to Lauren for OT. I had a long cranio-sacral session, which left me somewhat tired.

Before popping into McDonalds, my usual post-OT treat, Mom and I popped by Mark’s work (Luke and Loralei’s Daddy) where Mom and I were dropping off some of my baby toys for them to use. At Mark’s office I insisted on unpacking the entire bag of toys and showing Mark how they worked and their little quirks. I wasn’t keen on a late night toy-support-Skype-call to explain the in’s and out’s of my best baby toys!

When we arrived at McDonalds, there was a big surprise in stall for me – Granny and Daddy were there to have lunch with me! I was thrilled! Granny came home with us as she was spending the weekend with us. After an afternoon nap I decided to run around the garden naked playing with the hose pipe!

Mommy and Granny had to pop into Sandton City on Saturday morning to do some work. Dad and I had a stunning agenda for the morning – we were going to the MamaMagic Baby Expo to see Barney, Mr Bump, Bob The Builder, Little Miss Sunshine and Snoopy. I must admit I wasn’t familiar with Snoopy, but Dad told me all about him and Charlie Brown on the way to The Dome.

We paid, got some snacks and immediately settled into the auditorium in great seats. Pretty soon the lights dimmed, the music turned up, and Bob The Builder appeared on stage. We all screamed with delight. The vibes pumped as we all sang and danced Big Fish, Little Fish, Cardboard Box with Bob The Builder for the curtain raiser. It was awesome.

Some Christmas Carols followed, with appearances by Snoopy, Mr Bump and Little Miss Sunshine. Then the main attraction, Barney, then bounced onto stage. We screamed in delight! We sang some of our Barney favourites like I Love You, If All The Raindrops, and others. It was such a rave.

All too soon the hour long concert was over, but Dad and I stayed behind to look at the sound and lighting equipment, and especially the huge video camera that was mounted on a tripod to film the concert. I was most impressed with all the wires and gadgets and buttons and things.

I then had a really long play in the play-area. There were colouring tables with letters to Santa – I coloured in a few and posted them in the toadstool. Eventually it was time to leave, and we hadn’t gone two blocks and I was fast asleep in the car dreaming of the stunning concert.

Mom, Granny, Dad and I got down to some serious train building in the late afternoon. With my new pylons and supports, Dad built a double-decker track, where trains could run one above the other. I loved it!

Sunday morning started off in a flurry as we were having another show day. Mom and Granny went to Sandton City, and Dad and I went to Yeesh. Ryan and Claudi met us there and we played up a storm. Mommy and Granny joined us in the afternoon. The skies opened up and it poured and rained for the afternoon.

I spent the evening giggling as I watched Scrat in Ice Age 1 and 2 – Granny had bought these for me during the day. I now just need to find Ice Age 3 to complete my collection. I giggled and giggled as poor little Scrat got up to all sorts of antics chasing down the elusive acorn.

Love,

Jarrod

Hi Lynn and Norwin my name is Aneesa and I’m 19. I discovered this blog completely by accident (I like to read blogs and recently started my own!) i was born with Goldenhar syndrome which is a rare condition where one side of the face doesn’t grow properly, in addition I also had hydrocephalus and cleft lip and palate I cannot tell you how much I can relate to what Jarrod is going through…the OT, the physio, speech therapy and the many many surgeries (I even know two of Jarrod’s doctors). I can only imagine what the two of you are going through…I know my mom and dad find it tough at times but at least my condition is not life threatning. I really wanted to say that I have the utmost respect for the two of you!! I slso just have to say Jarrod is incredibly brave and ABSOULUTELY gorgeous 🙂
