Christmas fever is running rife throughout the house as excitement towards Christmas Eve builds up. I even suspect the Amazon.com man has been here a few times with deliveries for me. But I’m getting ahead of myself, so let me chat about my week so far.

Monday we had breakfast at the Cabanas at Sun City. It was our last day there before driving home. Sadly Chef Andrew is now at Drakensberg Sun so we really missed his company. We arranged a late check-out, for after breakfast as we couldn’t take Missy with us to breakfast – we’d ‘smuggled’ her with us on holiday, as she is still so little and young that we couldn’t leave her with the house sitters. She proved an excellent companion to Ryan and I! After we packed our cars, we bid Ryan, Paul and Claudi farewell and we all headed home. Granny stayed over for the evening, so she was a perfect candidate to assist me with building a Trackmaster train-set.

On Tuesday I went to work with Daddy – to his office in town. I was most impressed; his office is located in Towers West which is a ‘green’ building (actually I didn’t see anything green about the building, but I guess that’s adults for you)! While Daddy made some important phone calls I played on my iPad and caught fish! I also helped Dad make coffee from the vending machine and then we took a walk onto the balcony – Daddy has a balcony door right at his desk! Admittedly the view wasn’t great, as it was the middle of Jo’burg.

Twice I bolted from him to the other side of the building, with all his colleagues cheering me on and giggling as I sprinted through the desks. I must admit, they all looked like meerkats as they popped up from their cubicles to watch me sprint pass. Sadly some of them gave me away and both times Dad eventually found me! Pretty soon it was time for us to leave, so I helped Dad pack all his things into a box. We were barely out of the underground parking when I fell asleep.

After snoozing at home for a short while Mommy arrived home from work. She had a gift for me from Granny – The Puss in Boots DVD. Mom, Dad and I immediately started watching it together.

On Wednesday I went to work with Mom, as Daddy had to quickly pop into his Randburg office to do one last thing. While at work with Mom, Granny got me a Hotwheels Garage that doubles as a four lane race track. It was awesome! She also got me some Angry Birds to play with. As if that wasn’t enough, I discovered Daddy had loaded a Thomas the Tank Engine ‘Day of the Diesels’ app on my iPad. I was over the moon. In the evening Dad and I popped out to get pizzas and salad for the family. We chatted all the way.

As I opened my eyes on Thursday I said ‘Where’s my Christmas presents, I can hardly wait!’ Mom and Dad thought it was really funny. I stayed with Dad and the first order of the day was to go to our storage unit to get our Christmas tree. En route we dropped Mommy off at work, and Dad and I shopped for Christmas presents for Mommy at Sandton City. It was such fun, and afterward Dad and I had a quick breakfast together.

At our storage unit Daddy pulled open the garage door and voilà, the first thing I spotted was my bike which I got for Christmas last year from Aunty Birgitt and Uncle Wayne. Back then I tried and tried, but I couldn’t ride it. But now, seeing it again, I immediately hopped on it and started riding it. I haven’t quite got the pedal motion thing right yet, given the different strength and lengths in my legs from all my operations and time in hospital. Dad was thrilled, and immediately BBM’ed a photo to Mommy. What a watershed day.

On our way home from the storage unit we collected Mommy. At home we got down to the business of setting up our Christmas tree and Christmas lights. It was huge fun. Even Missy and Mickey got involved.

Friday morning Daddy took me for breakfast at the Wimpy. I had a huge play on the jungle gym. In the ‘tower’ I pretended to close and lock the door with an imaginary door, key and lock. Daddy played along beautifully as he pretended to lose the imaginary key, find it, and unlock me from the tower and let me out. We had so much fun – people even stopped to watch us play our imaginary game – they were completely enthralled. We played so hard that we’d barely driving one block and I was asleep.

When I woke up Mom was home and we all headed out to Yeesh where we met up with Ryan and Claudi. Ryan and I played up a storm and we were there so late we were last people to leave. We popped in to the Brightwater Commons for some last Christmas goodies and afterward Mom, Dad and I had dinner at Café Duarte. Our waitress was thrilled with my good manners, ordering for myself and eating my calamari and chips with a knife and fork. I said thank you and was on my best behaviour. Even the proprietor was impressed with my behaviour.

Of course Saturday morning we were all pretty relieved to wake up, realising the Mayans had gotten the end of the world wrong! Mommy went for a facial; Dad and I stayed home and wrapped Mommy’s Christmas presents. Afterward we played Angry Birds Star Wars on our iPads. Granny arrived at midday and then Mom and Dad went out for a while. I was looking forward to the time with Granny but I was exhausted, and fell asleep almost immediately after Mommy and Daddy left. They arrived home just as I woke up. I enjoyed my snoozed, but I missed spending the time with my Granny.

On Sunday morning I went to ‘work’ with Mommy where we did some more shopping. I got a Henry for my Trackmaster and a Thomas the Tank Engine outfit for Christmas Eve. I had a snooze and then Dad built me a track to use Henry on. Before I could blink it was time to write my blog again and the week was over.

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Love,

Jarrod
